Well college is exactly a week away and I’m both freaking out and excited about it. Freaking out because of the many decisions that I have to make (mainly financial), and just knowing that I actually have to become an adult. Though it’s a bit hard to become a full-fledged adult when I still live with my parents and still haven’t figured everything out yet, like taxes. Excited because I’m finally in college and could make my own decisions, like not taking classes so early in the morning. Also, because I’m three classes away from finishing my general ed requirements.  Leaving me a lot of room to finish all the requirements for an English major, business minor, and maybe a gender studies minor, as well as take other classes that I like.

That reminds me, here are the classes that I’m going to be taking this fall:

Critical Introduction to Literary Forms

Or as I like to call it, step one for acquiring an English major. This class will most likely involve a lot of writing and reading. Which is both yay and nay. Yay, because I love reading (as you may have already noticed) and analyzing the text because it gives deeper meaning to the work as a whole. Nay, because I’m not a big fan of writing essays.

Beginning Vietnamese I

Finally a language course that will hopefully fit my needs. After living eighteen or so years in a Vietnamese home, I’ve only managed to speak a few words/phrases of the language. Which is certainly not enough to carry on a conversation with someone. However, I can understand some of it, to a certain extent. And not having enough motivation to study Vietnamese on my own (after so and so failed attempts), it’s nice to find a teacher willing to teach it in a small classroom setting. Hopefully, this will stick and I can speak a bit more Vietnamese to my family by the end of the school year.

Here I Stand: An Intro to Gender Studies

Where I learn more about the discrimination against gender and/or lgbtqia+ minorities. Which will probably anger me, as I learn more about the injustice that is found in our society and around the world. However, this is also a class I look forward to taking because it will help me get out of my comfort zone and develop my leadership skills (which is so-so). And by developing my leadership skills, I mean I’m going to an after school program for K-6 graders, with a group of my classmates, and mentor little kids. Which is extremely terrifying to me, because one, I don’t teach; two, I’m not that great with little kids; and three, just the fact that they’re eventually going to look up to me makes me feel even older than I already am. Hopefully, it will be worth it though.

Introduction to Creative Writing

As you can deduce from the title, this class is not going to involve writing critical essays about the symbolism of the green light in The Great Gatsby or another symbolic item in another great work of literature. However, this class might involve fanfiction that includes the green light from The Great Gatsby. It’s also most likely going to involve quite a few writer’s blocks; coffee; crazy stories about who knows what; and poetry about the large, mysterious void that is the future.

And there you have it, part one of my classes that I’m going to be taking this year. And as you can see, math will not be involved, nor will I take it in the spring. This is a grave choice that I’m making because eventually I have to take it if I want that business minor.

Classes and such

Hello everyone, and welcome to Sweets Galore; if you’re following me thank you, if you’re just browsing then continue on, but if you want, you can stay.

School starts in one week from now and I’m absolutely terrified. I’m also really excited for school to start as well; it’s just that I’m not excited right now. I finally have my class schedule, which I will post in a minute. As well as new clothes and school supplies. I know that should be enough to get me through the ten-ish months of school. However, I feel like I should have something more, such as more locker decorations and/or a paying job [specifically at the library]. The locker decorations are easy to get but the job hunt is hard or will be hard if I started on it. I also want to drive to school instead of walk or take the bus but I’m scared of crashing or getting into an accident, especially if my loved ones are with me.

You know, the more I think about it, the more it’s true. Fear seems to be the only thing holding me back from achieving some of my goals such as getting a job and learn how to drive. And that’s bad because it means I’ll never achieve those goals if I continue to let fear get in the way.

It’s also a brave thing for me to walk to school, if I didn’t do that I’ll probably be stuck on the computer forever. And that is both good and bad; good because I’ll never have to leave the house and I’ll probably learn faster, bad because I don’t leave the house and I’ll probably procrastinate more often. So it’s a good thing I have school, homework, dances, any other school activities, libraries, and etc to take me away from the computer or else I would have became a  mindless robot by now.

Speaking of school, I promised to show you my classes, did I? Well here it is.

I find it odd that my school is still keeping the A day classes and the B day classes when they’re going to do the regular eight day schedule (or so I have heard.) Wouldn’t it be easier for everyone to say first period, second period, third period, etc? Instead of saying, "Go to your fourth period class." 
"Which fourth period class?" Oh well, in my opinion it’s easier to write down 1A, 1B, etc, on a piece of paper and not the whole 1st or first period.

I need inspiration for the whole school year as well. So starting every Monday all the way to whenever the school year ends (or I might just continue it, who knows?) I’ll post an inspiring picture or two or five or so and I’ll try to look up to it and listen to it for the entire week or year. It will certainly help when I’m feeling down because of life.

And there will probably be a subject for the inspiring pictures, or not, depending on my mood. So it will begin today and today’s subject will be… fear because of my fear for completing some of my goals.

I survived!

I survived the second day of school. And the second batch of classes. If you don't understand what I'm talking about, other then the surviving school part I'll tell. My school schedule is split into two days, A day and B day. On both days you you have a complete set of different classes. Which is nice, because you don't have to do your homework till the next day...
Kidding, I won't procrastinate on my homework... much. But my math teacher from last year thinks the regular seven classes a day is better. Which in a way I guess it is.
Well here's my schedule since I don't have much to write...
A day classes
1a. Algebra 2
2a. Geometry (It's technically called Secondary math honors, but it was to long to say so I'm just calling it geometry)
3a. English honors
Lunch
3a. English honors
4a. French trois (three)

B day classes
1b. PE
2b. Communications tech./Yearbook (Yay ^-^)
3b. Earth Systems honors
Lunch
4b. Geography honors.

As you can see I'm pretty advanced, but not that advanced since I don't take any classes at the high school. And the lunch is pretty different, since they have three lunches all split up during third period. And the reason for this is because there's a ton of students going here (this year it is about 1400ish?). And that is a lot more than the local jr. high across town. And the education is pretty cool, in a way.
It was odd, yesterday I was a bit hot since they didn't fix the AC system. And now today I was freezing in most of my classes. Well at least they were fast in fixing it.
It seems the only classes I won't really like well is geography (maybe), PE (another maybe) and geometry, since the work is easy, and yet it is only reviews. The rest seems pretty fun, like in science (the different periods are competing against each other in this world kind of thing, there's going to be WAR, and others. [I seem to be pretty excited about the war, even though we don't really have a reason for attacking the other classes yet....])
And plus communications tech is going to be a bit easy since I learned most of the stuff on my own this summer. (What do you expect when you don't have money or transportation to go to places? Except for a computer.) 180 students signed up for it, and only 30ish got it, because it fitted with our schedules. So yay!
Well now I'm rambling, well au revoir. I wonder if I'll win that french award again...
